READING: John 1:29-36.
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthian 5:21)
For us to truly appreciate the value of our salvation, we need to comprehend what our Lord Jesus Christ went through and accomplished for our sakes. More than just an event, the sufferings and death of Jesus entailed more than what we perceive.
Here, we are told one of the spiritual implications of His hanging on the cross.
That is, He was made to become sin who knew no sin in Himself.
As there was the need to deal with the sin of man, no one was found worthy to take it away, for “all had sinned and fallen short.” By hanging on the cross (which was the highest punishment at that time for transgression), sin was imputed to the holy Son of God.
Thus, as Jesus carried the cross (the symbol of the accursed and suffering), He carried the sins of the whole human race! When He was nailed to it, His Father in Heaven looked away, hence “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?” He had thus fully become associated with sin that separated man from God. By that He could declare “It is finished.” That is, our sins fully paid for. What a great redemption! Appreciate Jesus for taking up our sins. He is coming soon!
🙏 PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I thank You for the gift of Your Son Jesus Christ to take our place and suffer for us. Thank You for the perfect sacrifice on the cross for our sins. Amen!
