READING: Hebrews 11:1-3, 6.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
Just as in any prepared food (good or bad) there are ingredients that make it so, it is much the same way with prayer. A prayer could be ‘good’ or ‘bad’ depending on its content. Paul shows us here how to make a good prayer.
A good prayer is anxiety-free.
This means do not harbour anxiety whilst beginning your prayer, but with faith and confidence in the Lord. Most times pressing needs drive us into praying, but we do not receive answers as we desire. This is one main reason: being anxious and having no hope!
Another ingredient for a good prayer is one that is filled with thanksgiving. In our desperate moments, we are most likely to only focus on our needs and forget to give God thanks, even for what we have received already. Thank Him also for the opportunity to be heard, and His ability to answer your prayers. Anxiety-free composure (being hopeful) and thanksgiving make a good prayer before God. Jesus is coming soon!
🙏 PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I pray for your grace in helping me to always put my confidence in you and not be anxious, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
