‘Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!’ Psalm 27:14
We are not promised immediate answers to prayers, but as children of God we can never lose hope in Christ Jesus. We know He is able to do all things. However, during certain seasons, He is calling us to wait.
King David knew first hand what it meant to wait on God for victory, for justice, for mercy and for vindication. He lost several children; had one son, Absalom attempt to hijack the throne; and struggled with King Saul for years. King David’s life was far from easy. But his songs are a source of godly inspiration when it comes to the topic of waiting on the Lord. His words give a glimpse on a man committed to waiting on God, no matter the circumstances, no matter the years gone by. David learned how to wait.
Read over the words of King David, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and be reassured that your waiting is not in vain:
‘Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.’ Psalm 25:3
‘Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.’ Psalm 25:5
‘May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.’ Psalm 25:21
‘Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!’ Psalm 31:24
‘Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!’ Psalm 37:7
‘But for you, O Lord, do I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.’ Psalm 38:15
‘And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.’ Psalm 39:7
‘I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.’ Psalm 40:1
‘I will thank you forever, because you have done it. I will wait for your name, for it is good, in the presence of the godly.’ Psalm 52:9
‘For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.’ Psalm 62:5
‘I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.’ Psalm 69:3
‘I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope.’ Psalm 130:5
Prayer
Lord, may Your children not grow weary in this season as they wait for You. Your Word states that he who endures until the end will be saved. Teach them to wait upon You. Father God, there are numerous things Your people are calling upon You for, answer them in Your mercy and take the glory. For nothing is impossible with You Jehovah. Renew faith and strength in Your people and let hope arise in these last days. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
